New Hunting Opportunities in Hot Springs State Forest |
For Arkansas hunters and outdoor enthusiasts, a big new chapter has opened inside Hot Springs State Forest.
The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission recently announced expanded access within the forest, officially designating the area as a Wildlife Management Area (WMA).
This change means new opportunities for hunting, bird-watching, and exploring some of the state’s most scenic terrain—all within reach of central and western Arkansas.
Expanding Access to the Outdoors
The WMA designation helps preserve wildlife habitat while giving the public more space for safe, managed recreation.
Officials say new signage, parking, and entry routes are being added, and small-game, deer, and turkey seasons will be available according to statewide guidelines.
“This is exactly the kind of place where people can get back to nature,” said an AGFC representative. “It’s about balance—protecting the forest while allowing responsible public use.”
Conservation Meets Community
Hot Springs State Forest covers thousands of wooded acres filled with rolling ridges, creeks, and mixed pine-hardwood forest.
Beyond hunting, the area invites hiking, wildlife photography, and quiet exploration.
The project is also expected to bring more visitors to nearby communities for lodging, supplies, and dining.
A Win for the River Valley
For River Valley residents, the opening means more destinations for day trips or weekend getaways.
Whether you’re after deer, snapshots of fall foliage, or just some quiet forest time, Hot Springs State Forest is now officially open for adventure. |
